** Our Selection / Awards Procedure: Festival Director / Producers make official selections for the festival by vote. Official Selections are then screened/graded by 5 different judges anonymously and given an overall grade on a 10 point scale for each of the qualifying award categories (with the exception of the “Directors Choice Award”). All judges points are then added together to give it a grade. The top 3 films by grade in each category are then considered an award nominee and listed on this page. The film with the highest grade in each category is considered and announced that category’s award winner at the festival. In the event of a tie for highest grade, the festival director, festival producer and festival founder will each vote on the tied films giving the majority vote the award. In the event that one of the festival production staff are involved in one of the films involving a tie, a 3rd party will be selected to vote in place of the production staff member involved.

The 2016 Horror in the Hills Official Film Selections:

A gang of criminals get more than they bargained for when they kidnap a boy and hold him hostage, locking themselves in with him inside their secret bunker to await their ransom pay. But do they know who or what they have?

Brian Barnes escapes to a remote cabin to sober up one final time. His plans are soon interrupted by the torments of a sadistic Sheriff and ghastly visions of ghosts. While pulling at the threads to this horrific mystery, it may be Brian’s sanity that unravels first.

August, 1976: Three teens driving on an isolated stretch of road somewhere in the Adirondacks of Upstate New York have a brush with a bizarre creature. Standing over 7 feet tall and covered in hair, they referred to it as a beast. Hours later, Abair Road was crawling with local and state police. Many of them recounted seeing the creature, as well.

As the weeks and months passed more individuals came forward with their own sightings. The Abair Incident became the impetus for a rash of sightings around the town of Whitehall that continue to this day. Today, Whitehall is frequently referred to as the Bigfoot Capitol of the East Coast. 

"Mr. Man" is a short Arthouse Horror film shot on black and white Tri X Super 8 film. A 7 year old girl seeking companionship and understanding, makes friends with a ghostly figure she names Mr. Man. Mr. Man scares her, yet enthralls her, and quickly becomes a continuous figure in her life. As she battles the debate in her mind over whether Mr. Man is real or make believe, she becomes addicted to this sensational presence in her life. Though frightened when he’s around, she can’t live without him.

Nym is a young man who works for a criminal organization. He moves packages and collects money as part of his responsibilities and he also hurts or threatens people who get into trouble with the business. One of the perks of his position is access to prostitutes, for which Nym indulges every evening. After one of his jobs goes wrong, leaving the younger brother of a rival crime boss named Carlos dead, Nym's boss, Lou, is assassinated and Nym is forced to flee town and go into hiding. Once in this new town, Asheville NC, Nym is forced to deal with his sex addiction. Unable to make the human connection necessary to engage in the sexual intercourse that he needs compounded with his new life crisis, Nym cuts his penis off and dresses himself up as the very object of his desire - a woman. 
Nym decides to kill himself until a chance encounter with a young man, John, diverts his interest. As Nym and John grow closer and closer, Carlos and his men close in on him until his old life comes crashing into his new world and Nym is forced to see and deal with the consequences of the man he once was.

In this re-telling of the classic American folk tale, a reclusive man living in a cabin with his hungry hunting dog are stalked by a creature with sharp teeth, claws, and glowing yellow eyes after a blind shotgun blast severs the creatures tail. The hermit begins to question his own sanity as the unseen menace lurking in the shadows of the lonesome woods hauntingly taunts “tailypo, tailypo, give me back my tailypo.”

A new drug on the street that turns girls on their period into raging mutant monsters severely impacts the business of a flamboyant pimp, his rogues gallery of henchmen and their stable of unstable hookers. 

Gary Davidson has seen better days. A sales executive struggling with booze and gambling, his job performance has slipped and he is given notice from his employer that he has 30 days to pick it up or he’s out on the street.

It doesn't help that he keeps hearing, "Knock knock knock... Housekeeping!" In his apartment. At 3 in the morning.

When no one's there.

Ultimately his experiences escalate to disturbing paranormal interactions with the "housekeeper," driving Gary to the brink of insanity.

Four friends went into the woods. Months later, only their GoPro footage came out.

A night of intoxicating fun can change in the blink of an eye as a trio of friends find out how one moment of inattentiveness can lead to a night full of terror.
